Latest: 31 killed in Beirut suburb after Israeli strike | Updates on Israel-Palestine conflict

The death toll in Beirut’s southern suburbs has risen to 31 people, including three children and seven women, after an Israeli air attack on Friday. The strike also injured 68 people, with two in critical condition. Lebanon’s health minister called the bombing a “war crime”, while Hezbollah confirmed that two of its top commanders were among the 14 killed. Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi warned of a “decisive” phase for Lebanon.

Lebanon is now on edge as people fear further escalation with Israel following the recent attacks. The Israeli strikes have raised serious concerns about violations of international humanitarian law. The situation in Lebanon could divert attention from Gaza, potentially leading to more human rights violations.

Israeli officials have indicated a readiness for a fiercer conflict with Hezbollah, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stating clear goals and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant vowing to continue pursuing enemies. Israel believes it can weaken Hezbollah through military strikes in multiple areas and on various fronts.

Despite the tensions, the Lebanese are critical of Israel’s actions and feel they are acting with impunity. The latest attacks have further heightened tensions in a region already plagued by conflict. The international community is urged to take action to prevent further violations of international law and human rights abuses. The situation remains tense, with uncertainty looming over what will happen next.
