A recent national NBC News poll shows Vice President Kamala Harris leading former President Donald Trump by 5 points among registered voters. Harris’ favorability rating has increased by 16 points since July, with her registering as more competent and effective than Trump. She is also seen as more capable of representing change and getting the country on the right track. Despite this, Trump still holds an advantage on the economy and inflation, although his leads have decreased since Biden’s exit from the race in July. Harris is ahead among key demographics such as Black voters, young voters, and women, while Trump’s support comes from men, white voters, and those without college degrees. The poll also shows that many voters have made up their minds, with only 11% saying they might change their vote. Harris performs well on protecting immigrant rights, abortion, health, and temperament to be president. However, there are concerns that she might continue Biden’s approach, which could be a vulnerability. The poll also indicates that many voters believe the country is heading in the wrong direction. Despite an increase in Democratic enthusiasm, young voters are still not as interested in the upcoming election compared to recent presidential races. The poll was conducted from September 13-17 and surveyed 1,000 registered voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
