Senator JD Vance addressed the bombshell report about Republican candidate for governor in North Carolina, Mark Robinson, for the first time. Vance stated that the allegations against Robinson “aren’t necessarily reality” and it is up to the people of North Carolina to decide his fate. Robinson allegedly made controversial comments on a porn website years ago but has denied the report and plans to stay in the race.
While some members of his own party have expressed concerns over the allegations, the North Carolina Republican Party reiterated their support for Robinson. Vance mentioned that his ticket does not have plans to campaign with Robinson, who is currently the state’s lieutenant governor. Despite the allegations, there are no plans for former President Trump to withdraw his endorsement of Robinson, as he has previously praised him, calling him “Martin Luther King on steroids.”
North Carolina is considered a crucial state for Republicans to win in order to secure the White House, with Trump narrowly winning the state in 2020. However, polling indicates a tight race between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. In the gubernatorial contest, Robinson is polling behind his Democratic opponent, North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein. The situation surrounding Robinson’s alleged comments will continue to play out in the court of public opinion as the election approaches.
