Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the US to present his “victory plan” to end the war with Russia. He met with President Biden, Kamala Harris, and Donald Trump, and attended UN general assembly sessions. Zelenskyy called on his partners to help achieve “a shared victory for a just peace.” He also visited a Pennsylvania ammunition factory and urged for more munitions to be sent to Ukraine. Meanwhile, UK foreign secretary David Lammy indicated ongoing negotiations with the White House to allow Ukraine to use Storm Shadow missiles inside Russia. Fake news websites registered in the UK have been spreading disinformation about western companies in Ukraine, prompting calls for a change in the law to reveal ownership. Russia launched new strikes in Kharkiv, hitting high-rise apartment buildings and leaving 21 wounded. Additionally, a firefighter was killed by a Ukrainian drone in the Russia-controlled Luhansk region. The visit comes after a summer of intense fighting, with Kyiv pushing for the west to allow long-range weapons to strike deep inside Russia. The future of the war is said to be determined this fall, according to Zelenskyy. The trip is crucial in achieving peace and securing much-needed support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
