Design September has kicked off in Brussels, bringing the city’s art scene to life for a month-long celebration. The festival features a wide range of events and exhibitions, showcasing the creativity of artists and designers from across Europe.
One of the highlights of the festival is an exhibition by Dutch-Italian artist Jacopo Koning, titled ‘The Absurd Greet’. The exhibition features grinning and screaming faces splattered on canvas and clothing, reflecting the artist’s inspiration from the avant-garde movement of the early 20th century. Koning’s work challenges the norms of society and invites viewers to find their own meaning in his seemingly absurd creations.
Other exhibitions at Design September focus on practical solutions for everyday challenges, such as an expandable wheelchair for children and innovative building designs that promote sustainability and adaptability. The festival also includes immersive installations and showcases the work of emerging designers from the Czech Republic and beyond.
Antoine Crahay, an urban developer and lecturer, emphasizes the importance of creating flexible buildings that can adapt to the needs of communities without being demolished every few years. This year’s festival aims to inspire new ways of living and building that address the environmental, social, and economic challenges faced by European cities.
Design September will return to Brussels in 2025, offering visitors another opportunity to experience the best of European design and creativity. Don’t miss out on this exciting showcase of art and innovation in the heart of the Belgian capital.
