Joe Biden’s administration names UAE as ‘major defense partner’ in unusual decision | Latest news on Joe Biden

The United States and the United Arab Emirates have strengthened their military cooperation by recognizing the UAE as a “major defense partner” despite tensions in the Middle East, including the war in Gaza and friction over Sudan. This designation, announced following a meeting between President Joe Biden and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, aims to enhance defense cooperation and security in the region.

The Biden administration sees the UAE as a key partner in addressing regional stability through joint training, exercises, and military collaboration. The meeting took place as Israel escalated attacks on Lebanon, resulting in hundreds of casualties. Biden and Al Nahyan also discussed the need for humanitarian aid in Gaza and a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

However, the designation comes amidst friction over the UAE’s alleged involvement in the war in Sudan, where the UAE has been accused of supplying weapons to conflicting parties. Despite this, both leaders emphasized that there can be no military solution to the conflict, calling for compliance with international humanitarian law.

US Vice President Kamala Harris also expressed concerns about the conflict in Sudan during a meeting with Al Nahyan. The US lawmakers urged Biden to use his leverage to address the situation in Sudan.

Overall, the deepening military ties between the US and the UAE aim to promote regional security and stability, despite challenges and tensions in the Middle East.
