A new NBC News poll has found that nearly all voters who are familiar with Project 2025, a conservative policy road map that Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party have criticized former President Donald Trump for, view the plan in a negative light. About 57% of registered voters reported feeling negatively about Project 2025, with 51% saying they see it “very” negatively. Among independents, 52% reported feeling negatively about the plan, while 85% of Democrats said the same. Only 4% of voters viewed the plan positively, with 7% of Republicans and 9% of “MAGA Republicans” holding a positive view.
Project 2025 is affiliated with former Trump administration officials and backed by pro-Trump conservative organizations, but Trump himself has distanced himself from the plan. Despite Democrats’ efforts to tie Trump to the plan, he has claimed he knows nothing about it. The national NBC News poll was conducted in September 2022 and found Project 2025 to be the least popular among all the subjects tested. Democrats have referenced Project 2025 in campaign ads and speeches, denouncing it as “Trump’s Project 2025 Agenda” and forming a “Stop Project 2025 Task Force.” The plan, partly drafted by former Trump aides, has been a point of contention between Democrats and Republicans, with most voters viewing it negatively.
