The latest data on EU and Eurozone unemployment rates shows stability at 6.4% throughout June, July, and August, with a 0.2% decrease compared to August last year. Greece, Spain, and Sweden have the highest rates of unemployment.
In August 2024, the EU unemployment rate was 5.9%, with over 13 million people without jobs across the bloc. Within the eurozone, the unemployment rate was 6.4%, with almost 11 million people currently unemployed. Spain, Greece, and Sweden have the highest rates of unemployment, while Czechia, Poland, and Malta have the lowest rates.
Youth unemployment remains concerning, with over 2.7 million unemployed individuals under 25 in the EU, making up 14.3% of the bloc. However, there was a decrease in youth unemployment compared to July 2024 and August last year. Spain, Sweden, and Estonia have the highest rates of youth unemployment, while Germany, Malta, and the Netherlands have the lowest.
Overall, there are more jobless women than men in the EU, with women’s unemployment rate at 6.1% compared to men’s rate of 5.7%. Despite a stable trend for women, men’s unemployment decreased by 5.8% from July. Greece, Spain, and Sweden have the highest rates of unemployment for women.
