Video captures deadly shooting of Kentucky judge at courthouse

In a courthouse in Whitesburg, Kentucky, surveillance video captured the shocking moment when former Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines shot and killed Letcher County District Judge Kevin Mullins. The video shows Stines confronting Mullins in the judge’s chambers, shooting at him multiple times as the judge tried to take cover on the floor. Mullins, 54, was fatally shot and Stines, 43, surrendered to authorities at the courthouse and pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge.

The video, which does not contain audio, shows Stines facing the judge while he sat at his desk, before shooting at him. Mullins can be seen raising his hands in defense before falling to the ground and crawling under his desk for cover. Stines is then seen firing more shots at the judge as he tries to escape from the room.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, with the Kentucky State Police investigating the incident. Stines’ lawyer announced his retirement after the governor threatened to remove him from his position as sheriff, but clarified that it was not related to the murder charge. The chilling surveillance video was played in court during a hearing for Stines, shedding light on the moment of violence that resulted in the death of Judge Mullins.
