South Carolina Gamecocks defeat the Dukes 3-1

triumphed over the James Madison Dukes in a hard-fought soccer match, coming out on top with a 3-1 victory.

The Gamecocks got off to a strong start, with an early goal from junior forward Emma Cobb in the 10th minute, giving them an early lead. However, the Dukes responded quickly, leveling the score with a goal of their own just five minutes later.

The two teams battled back and forth for the rest of the first half, with neither able to break the deadlock. But in the second half, the Gamecocks came out strong and took control of the game. Freshman midfielder Sarah Morris scored a goal in the 55th minute to put South Carolina back in front.

The Gamecocks continued to press the attack and sealed the victory with another goal in the 75th minute, this time from sophomore midfielder Kate Wiesner. The Dukes fought hard to get back into the game, but the Gamecocks’ defense held strong and they were unable to find the back of the net again.

The win was a solid victory for South Carolina, showing off their offensive prowess and strong defensive play. Head coach Shelley Smith was pleased with the team’s performance, especially their ability to bounce back after giving up an early goal.

The Gamecocks will look to carry this momentum into their next game as they continue their pursuit of a successful season. With a strong start to the year, South Carolina is proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the world of college soccer.
