A teenager was arrested by the Union County Sheriff’s Office after a shooting near a ballfield last weekend. The incident occurred when deputies responded to Union Medical Center where two people arrived with gunshot wounds. The shooting took place at 701 Main Street in the Buffalo Community of Union County, South Carolina. A third person injured in the shooting was located at a home on Blue Ridge Road and was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Authorities suspect that the shooting was a result of a drug deal gone wrong. Through investigations involving cell phone records, search warrants, and witness statements, 17-year-old Zymir Route of Union was identified as the shooter. Route was arrested on Wednesday and charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Deputies believe that Route was also injured by an accidental self-inflicted gunshot during the incident.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the shooting and is working to gather more information about the incident. The arrest of Route serves as a significant development in the case and brings the authorities closer to solving the crime. The community is encouraged to come forward with any additional information or leads that may assist in the investigation. As the case progresses, more details are expected to emerge regarding the motive behind the shooting and the circumstances surrounding the event.
