The South Carolina women’s basketball team started their season strong with a dominant 126-42 exhibition win against Clayton State. Led by MiLaysia Fulwiley’s 24 points, the defending National Champions showcased a team effort with every player contributing at least six points. Freshman Joyce Edwards impressed with nine points and a perfect shooting percentage in the first quarter. Tessa Johnson took charge in the second quarter with 11 points. The Gamecocks maintained a strong lead throughout the game, with a stellar defensive performance in the third quarter and a final push from Fulwiley in the fourth. Edwards stood out with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds. South Carolina’s shooting was on point, finishing at 54.5% from the field and 73.1% from behind the arc. The Gamecocks outrebounded Clayton State 60-31. Next, South Carolina will face off against the Michigan Wolverines in Las Vegas to kick off their regular season as part of the Naismith Hall of Fame Series. The team’s strong start sets a positive tone for what promises to be an exciting season for the South Carolina women’s basketball program.
