U.S. Representative Nancy Mace secured a third term in Congress by winning over Democratic challenger Michael B. Moore in the 1st Congressional District race. Mace, a Republican, claimed victory with 58% of the vote, solidifying GOP control over the seat. Despite Democratic hopes to reclaim the district, Mace’s established name recognition, fundraising power, and social media presence made her a formidable opponent. Moore, with notable family ties to Civil War hero Robert Smalls, struggled to compete.
Mace delivered a victory message focusing on the misconceptions of the radical left regarding independent-minded conservative women. She emphasized working twice as hard to overcome underestimations. Moore’s campaign faltered, with his most notable moment being the first South Carolina Democrat to call for Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.
Mace’s wavering stance on Donald Trump, from supporter to critic and back, did not sway voters. Her biggest challenge likely came from within the Republican party during the primary, where she faced retaliation from former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for voting to oust him. Despite this, Mace emerged victorious and will return to Congress for another term, a win she celebrated with a nod to the hard work and determination that got her there.
