East Carolina Women’s Basketball Prepares for Challenge Against No. 1 South Carolina
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women’s basketball team is set for a highly anticipated matchup against the reigning NCAA champions, No. 1 South Carolina, this Sunday at 2 p.m. The game will be held at Colonial Life Arena and can be streamed live on SECN+.
In their last outing, the Pirates demonstrated their offensive prowess with a commanding 16-point victory over Furman, fueled by a decisive 20-3 run in the second half. Jayla Hearp led the team in scoring with 14 points, marking her as the first ECU player, not named Danae McNeal, to achieve double-digit scoring alongside five steals since December 2023. MyMy Joyner contributed significantly with 10 rebounds, while Khia Miller added 10 points, including two crucial three-pointers.
The Pirates face a formidable opponent in South Carolina, known for its impressive performance this season under the leadership of head coach Dawn Staley. The Gamecocks, boasting a perfect record, feature standout players like Chloe Kitts, who averages 19.0 points and 12 rebounds per game.
