Gamecocks Freshman Left Tackle Josiah Thompson Cleared for SEC Showdown Against Missouri
Columbia, SC – South Carolina freshman left tackle Josiah Thompson has been upgraded from probable to available, ready to take the field this Saturday against Missouri in the SEC finale at Williams-Brice Stadium. Thompson’s availability was confirmed when he was not listed on the SEC’s latest player availability report released on Friday.
Despite Thompson’s return, the Gamecocks will face the Tigers without several key players. EDGE rusher Gilber Edmond, defensive lineman Nick Barrett, running back Matt Fuller, and offensive lineman Jakai Moore have all been ruled out for the matchup. However, the Gamecocks are set to welcome back safety DQ Smith and defensive tackle DeAndre Jules.
On the opposing sideline, Missouri is uncertain about starting quarterback Brady Cook, still listed as doubtful after missing the last game due to an injury sustained against Alabama. If Cook is unable to play, Drew Pyne is poised to step in as the starter once more.
South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer acknowledged the potential for sophomore Tree Babalade to see action alongside Thompson, praising Babalade’s strong performance in last week’s victory over Vanderbilt. “Regardless of Josiah’s health, Tree came in and did some good things,” Beamer noted, emphasizing confidence in both players.
The Gamecocks, who have managed relative health this season, faced a series of injuries during their last outing but expect multiple players, including linebacker Mo Kaba, to return against Missouri.
