South Carolina Cross Country is gearing up to compete at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Rock Hill, S.C. The 6K race will take place at the Winthrop Farm Course on Nov. 15th at 10:30 a.m. The Gamecocks are looking to secure a spot in the NCAA Cross Country Championship in Wisconsin on Nov. 23rd. The top two teams from each regional will receive automatic bids, with thirteen additional teams and 38 individual runners selected at-large.
The Gamecocks will face tough competition, with only one other conference foe, Kentucky, in the rankings. The team is led by Teresa Cherotich, who recently earned All-SEC Second Team honors. Freshmen Mary Frances Iseman and Cate Conklin have also been strong performers. The team will also include sophomore runners Anya Arroyo, Emma Torbert, and Hattie Jennings, along with freshmen Siobhan Joyce and senior Lily Weeks.
South Carolina aims to improve on last year’s 11th place finish at the regional competition and advance to the NCAA Championship as a team. The program’s first individual advancement to the championship was achieved by former Gamecock Judy Kosgei. The Gamecocks last finished inside the Top 10 at the Southeast Regional in 2012.
Fans can follow along with live results of the race, and the Gamecocks are determined to give their best performance and secure a spot in the NCAA Championship in Wisconsin.
