Pineland Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Shooting Incident
PINELAND, S.C. (WTOC) – A man from Jasper County has been sentenced to 20 years in prison following a shooting that left his love interest’s father seriously injured. Bernard Marquis Primus, 28, attempted to target the boyfriend of a woman he was pursuing romantically but instead shot her father on October 9, 2022.
According to the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, the incident unfolded around midnight when a neighbor noticed Primus lurking in the victim’s backyard. The neighbor alerted the father, who then stepped outside with a flashlight to investigate. Primus, hiding beneath his truck, opened fire as the father left the back porch, hitting him at least six times.
Emergency responders transported the victim to a Savannah hospital, where he received treatment for multiple gunshot wounds to his legs and side. As law enforcement searched the area, deputies discovered Primus walking on Grays Highway, less than half a mile from the shooting scene. A police dog subsequently located a black pistol discarded in the grass near Primus’s home.
The shooting incident was severe enough to garner a lengthy prison sentence, emphasizing the grave consequences of such violent behavior. Primus’s actions not only endangered a life but also resulted in substantial legal repercussions, reflecting ongoing concerns about gun violence and safety in communities.
As the legal process concludes, the community in Jasper County remains shaken by this tragic event, highlighting the need for vigilance and dialogue regarding personal safety and conflict resolution. The 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office continues to advocate for justice in serious crimes affecting local residents.
