Sellers Sets Career Record with 5 TD Passes as No. 23 South Carolina Edges No. 24 Missouri 34-30

South Carolina’s Freshman QB LaNorris Sellers Shines in Dramatic Victory Over Missouri

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers delivered a standout performance on Saturday night, leading the No. 23 Gamecocks to a thrilling 34-30 victory against No. 24 Missouri. The redshirt freshman, who recently took over from Spencer Rattler, threw for 353 yards and five touchdowns, including a game-winning 15-yard strike to Raheim Sanders with just 15 seconds remaining.

Sellers’ impressive agility was highlighted by a pivotal play where he escaped a sack, completing an 11-yard pass to tight end Brady Hunt on third down during a crucial drive. “The second he got out of it, I knew something good was going to happen,” said Gamecocks defensive tackle Alex Huntley. Sellers’ calm demeanor under pressure has defined his recent play as South Carolina has surged to a four-game winning streak, including victories over Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt.

Despite trailing twice in the fourth quarter, Sellers rallied the Gamecocks, who are now 7-3 overall and 5-3 in the SEC—marking their first four consecutive conference wins since 2012. Missouri, which had a brief lead following a touchdown by Brady Cook, could not hold on as Sellers responded brilliantly.

Cook threw for 239 yards but faced a tough defense, culminating in a game-ending interception by Jalon Kilgore. Missouri’s five-game series winning streak against the Gamecocks has officially come to an end, diminishing the Tigers’ hopes for a College Football Playoff berth this season.

Looking ahead, South Carolina aims to maintain its momentum against Wofford next Saturday before facing rival Clemson in two weeks, seeking to solidify their playoff aspirations.
