FAQ: Important Information for Voting in South Carolina on Election Day 2024 | Palmetto Politics

South Carolina is gearing up for a crucial election day after a record-breaking early voting turnout. Over 1.5 million voters have already cast their ballots, representing around 45% of the state’s registered voters. Today, South Carolinians will head to the polls to participate in the highly anticipated presidential election as well as pivotal down-ballot contests that will shape the state’s political future for the next two years. In addition to local races, voters will also choose their representatives in Congress and fill all 170 seats in the state Legislature.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, no restrictions are in place for Election Day, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Any registered voter in South Carolina can participate, and they can check their registration status on the S.C. Election Commission website.

The presidential race between Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican former President Donald Trump is expected to be a major turnout driver. Additionally, all seven U.S. House representatives and all 170 members of the Statehouse are up for election this year. Local elections for county offices, sheriffs, and nonpartisan school board races are also taking place.

With a surge of early voter turnout and high stakes at play, all eyes are on South Carolina as results come in from today’s election.
