Gamecocks Extend Winning Streak with Dominant Victory Over East Carolina
COLUMBIA, S.C. — In a commanding display of skill and teamwork, the No. 1 South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the East Carolina Pirates 95-44 on Sunday, marking their 42nd consecutive victory, which ties the program record. Leading the charge was Chloe Kitts, who scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, showcasing her continued growth this season.
The Gamecocks, now 4-0, surged to an early 13-0 lead and maintained control throughout the match. MiLaysia Fulwiley and freshman Joyce Edwards each added 12 points, contributing to a robust offensive performance with five players finishing in double figures. The depth of the team was evident as all 12 players who took the court scored at least one basket, with the bench accounting for an impressive 45 points.
South Carolina’s defense set the tone, limiting East Carolina (2-2) to just five points in the closing stretch of the first quarter, marking a nearly four-minute scoring drought for the Pirates. Coach Dawn Staley employed creative line changes, notably substituting all five players on the court at once.
The Gamecocks capitalized on their opponents’ mistakes, scoring 40 points off turnovers—their highest since a game against Duke in December 2019. Notably, every starter recorded at least one steal, rebound, and assist during the game, highlighting their defensive prowess.
Freshman Maddy McDaniel shone with team highs of six assists and four steals, while Sania Feagin contributed significantly with a perfect first half, totaling 10 points on flawless shooting. As South Carolina continues to dominate, the team looks forward to extending its winning streak in future matchups.
