Police rule death of 19-year-old Walmart employee in walk-in oven as non-suspicious

Halifax Regional Police have confirmed that no foul play is suspected in the death of 19-year-old Walmart employee Gursimran Kaur, who was found deceased in the store’s walk-in oven last month. The investigation determined that her death was not suspicious and there is no evidence of foul play. Police conducted interviews, reviewed video footage, and worked closely with other agencies in their investigation. Kaur’s family has been informed of the update and condolences have been extended to them. The Maritime Sikh Society in Halifax, where Kaur and her mother are originally from India, launched a fundraiser on behalf of the family. Kaur’s mother, who also worked at the store, discovered her body in the oven after becoming concerned when she could not reach her daughter. The store remains closed, a stop-work order was issued for the bakery and a piece of equipment, which has since been lifted. The Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration has taken over the workplace investigation now that the police have concluded their part. Walmart has stated that the bakery oven is being removed as part of a remodel program. This tragic incident has resulted in the loss of a young employee, but authorities have determined that there was no foul play involved in her death.
