Record-breaking 1st week of early voting sees over 735,000 turn out

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Election Commission (SEC) has reported a record-breaking number of early voters in the state leading up to Election Day. Over 735,400 voters participated in early voting from Oct. 21 to Oct. 28, surpassing the total number of early voters in the 2022 general election. SEC Executive Director Howie Knapp expressed excitement about the strong turnout, with expectations of continued record-breaking participation in the second week of early voting.

Early voting centers in South Carolina are open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the early voting period will conclude on Saturday, Nov. 2. Election Day is set for Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The surge in early voting in South Carolina reflects the high levels of voter enthusiasm and engagement leading up to the upcoming election. The SEC encourages all eligible voters to take advantage of early voting opportunities to make their voices heard and participate in the democratic process.

With such a significant number of early voters already casting their ballots, the stage is set for a potentially historic turnout in the state of South Carolina for the 2022 general election. As voters continue to turn out in large numbers, it is clear that this election is generating considerable interest and engagement among the electorate.
