In response to negative headlines and safety concerns, popular online gaming platform Roblox is implementing new measures to protect its young user base. Users under 13 will no longer be able to send direct messages unless approved by a parent or guardian, and will be limited to sending “broadcast-only” messages during games. The platform will also introduce content labels categorizing games as “minimal,” “mild,” “moderate,” or “restricted.” Users under 9 will only have access to minimal or mild content, requiring parental consent for moderate content. Parents will receive alerts when their child approaches a milestone impacting their settings. Despite facing criticism over safety issues, Roblox insists it takes safety seriously and is dedicated to providing a secure platform for its users. The platform recently came under fire when a 2-month-old baby was injured by a 10-year-old girl following instructions from a 36-year-old woman through Roblox. A report also accused Roblox of being an “X-rated pedophile hellscape,” but the company strongly denied these claims, emphasizing its commitment to trust and safety measures. Roblox acknowledges the challenges of keeping its young user base safe online and remains focused on creating a safe and enjoyable environment for all users.
