New Fire Truck for Circle Fire Department Aids Community Healing Post-Hurricane Helene
CIRCLE, S.C. – The Circle Fire Department has received a new fire truck, courtesy of the South Carolina Forestry Commission, marking a significant step towards recovery following the devastating losses experienced during Hurricane Helene. The storm claimed the lives of longtime Fire Chief Chad Satcher, who dedicated 35 years to the community, and volunteer firefighter Landon Cale Bodie, a recent Blythewood High School graduate who had only been with the department for three months.
In a heartfelt statement, Assistant Law Enforcement Chief Johnathan Calorie expressed hope that the arrival of the new truck would aid in the healing process for the fire department and the community. “It’s helping that healing process, getting things back to a sort of a sense of normal for them,” Calorie said.
The new fire truck was acquired through a federal surplus program, allowing the South Carolina Forestry Commission to provide vital resources to local departments at reduced costs. “We’re able to get surplus equipment from the military that they no longer need at a much reduced price,” noted Calorie, adding that the Circle Fire Department is receiving the truck at no cost through this initiative.
The funeral for Bodie was held just days prior, with family members recalling his passion for service and the strong bond he shared with Chief Satcher. Both dedicated their lives to helping others and were known for their commitment to the community.
As Circle Fire Department begins to rebuild, the new truck signifies not only a practical asset but also a symbol of resilience and support within the community. The department continues to honor the memories of their fallen heroes as they move forward.
