University of South Carolina senior Kai Kroeger has been named one of the 10 semifinalists for the prestigious 2024 Ray Guy Award, which honors the nation’s top punter. Kroeger, a standout from Lake Forest, Ill., leads the SEC and ranks second in the nation with an impressive 47.8-yard average. He recently received SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his outstanding performance against Kentucky, marking the fifth time in his career that he has won the award.
The Ray Guy Award committee evaluated candidates based on overall statistics, contribution to the team, net punting average, and other factors. Kroeger’s impressive feats include a season-best 75-yard punt against Akron, tying for the fourth-longest punt in FBS play this year. He is also a decorated punter, having been named to the All-SEC and All-America teams in 2022.
The finalists for the Ray Guy Award will be announced on November 26, with the winner being revealed during The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN on December 12. The award recognizes not only individual performance but also leadership, self-discipline, and impact on the team’s success. Kroeger is up against a strong field of semifinalists, including players from schools like Florida State, Georgia, and Alabama.
As Kroeger continues to impress on the field, he remains focused on helping the Gamecocks succeed. Fans and supporters will eagerly await the final award announcement as Kroeger looks to add another accolade to his already impressive career.
