University of South Carolina senior Kyle Kennard has been named a finalist for the prestigious Lombardi Award, which recognizes the most outstanding player in college football who exemplifies character, discipline, and excellence both on and off the field. Kennard, known for his impressive statistics in sacks and tackles for loss, is one of four finalists for the award.
Having also been named a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award and the Walter Camp National Player of the Year, Kennard’s success has been recognized on multiple fronts. The winner of the Lombardi Award will be announced in December, with Kennard set to compete against Kelvin Banks Jr. from the University of Texas, Will Campbell from Louisiana State University, and Abdul Carter from Pennsylvania State University.
Kennard, in his first year at South Carolina, has recorded an impressive 10.5 sacks, positioning himself as a standout in the SEC and potentially on track to break the school record for sacks in a single season. With his pass-rushing skills and strong work ethic, Kennard is seen as a potential first-round pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.
Kelvin Banks Jr., Will Campbell, and Abdul Carter each bring their own strengths and achievements to the table, with Banks known for his consistency at left tackle for Texas, Campbell for his leadership on the LSU offensive line, and Carter for his dynamic playstyle for the Nittany Lions.
The Lombardi Award Committee has highlighted these finalists for their exceptional performances and contributions to college football, setting the stage for an exciting announcement later this year.
