South Carolina Gamecocks Set New Milestone with 43rd Consecutive Win
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) – The South Carolina Gamecocks continue to make history, achieving their program-record 43rd consecutive victory with a decisive 77-45 win over rival Clemson on Wednesday night. The win surpasses the previous streak that began in the 2022 NCAA Tournament and carried through the following season’s Final Four.
Te-Hina Paopao led the team with 13 points, reflecting on the achievement with humility: “No, it feels great… We’ve just got to take one game at a time.” The Gamecocks are now off to a strong start this season, boasting a 5-0 record that includes an impressive victory over Michigan and a win against then-ninth-ranked N.C. State.
Head coach Dawn Staley expressed pride in her team’s consistency and commitment, noting, “To have two of them, it’s pretty special. It means our players make a commitment to the team, to us (coaches), and to each other.” Staley pointed out that South Carolina has won 85 of their last 86 games, with the sole loss occurring in a memorable national semifinal against Iowa.
Looking ahead, the Gamecocks face a challenging schedule, starting with a matchup against No. 5 UCLA on Sunday. They will also contend with ranked teams like No. 8 Iowa State, No. 14 Duke, and No. 19 TCU in the coming weeks. Staley emphasized the importance of remaining focused: “24 hour rule. We’ll enjoy it, then we’ve got to move on.”
With a home winning streak now at 61 games, the Gamecocks continue to excel, while senior Bree Hall emphasized the team’s future aspirations rather than dwelling on their latest record. “It’s great… but we focus on the next game,” she stated.
As South Carolina’s momentum builds, fans are left eager to see how far this remarkable journey can take them.
