No. 19 South Carolina Aims to Maintain Mindset and Intensity Against FCS Rival Wofford

Gamecocks Set for Senior Day Showdown Against Wofford

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The No. 19 South Carolina Gamecocks are riding a remarkable four-game winning streak in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) as they prepare to face their in-state rivals, the Wofford Terriers, this Saturday. South Carolina (7-3) is eager to maintain its momentum, especially after securing victories against three consecutive AP Top 25 opponents—a first in the program’s history.

Linebacker Debo Williams emphasized the importance of staying focused: "We’re not talking mediocre." The Gamecocks are keen to treat this matchup with the same seriousness they approached their challenging SEC games. Defensive lineman Alex Huntley echoed this sentiment, vowing to sustain their preparation regardless of the opponent.

Wofford, an FCS program, has struggled against South Carolina, losing 17 straight matchups, with their last victory dating back to 1986. The Terriers have only once come close to victory in the past 13 encounters. However, under head coach Shawn Watson, Wofford has shown resilience, making significant strides this season with five wins, matching their total from the previous two years.

Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers has emerged as a standout player in the second half of the season, throwing for over 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns against just one interception during the winning streak. Last week, Sellers achieved five touchdown passes in a thrilling last-minute victory over Missouri.

As the athletes gear up for Senior Day at Williams-Brice Stadium, emotions will run high. Head coach Shane Beamer shared his pride in the seniors, many of whom stayed with the program during challenging times. Additionally, Gamecocks punter Kai Kroeger is leading the SEC with a 47.7-yard average and plans to pursue a career in federal law enforcement post-football.

In a heartwarming gesture, Beamer, along with Darius Rucker and women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley, recently contributed to the band’s trip to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, reinforcing the community spirit that surrounds the Gamecocks.
