Gamecocks Shine at Midseason Invitational: Record-Setting Performance
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina swimming team delivered an outstanding performance at the concluding session of their midseason invitational, achieving two school and three pool records as they finished the meet on a high note. The women’s team secured victory for the third consecutive year with a total of 1,551.50 points, outpacing the University of North Carolina. Meanwhile, the men’s team finished third with 1,035 points.
The women’s events were highlighted by Madison Kolessar, who set the pace in the 1650 freestyle, clinching a school record with a time of 16:12.57. Freshman Nora Fluck and Emma Reiser followed closely, marking significant personal bests and a historic sweep for the Gamecocks.
On the men’s side, Connor Fry narrowly edged out Tampa’s Jacob Hamlin in the 1650 freestyle, clocking in at 14:52.97, while teammate Raymond Prosinski secured third.
Amy Riordan added to the excitement with a pool record in the 200 backstroke, finishing in 1:52.89. Not to be outdone, Kaden Smesko claimed victory in the men’s 200 freestyle, smashing both the school and pool record with a 1:41.55 swim.
The event also saw strong performances from Delaney Franklin and Liam Kerns in the breaststroke events. Franklin achieved third place in the 200 breast, while Kerns recorded a personal-best time, ranking third all-time in the program’s history.
In diving events, Charley Bayer excelled in the men’s platform, finishing with a score of 243.90.
Looking ahead, select divers will compete at the USA Diving Winter Nationals in Indianapolis from December 7-15. All teams return to action on January 4 for a dual meet against Virginia Tech.
