Stingrays Fall Short in Nail-Biting Finish Against Swamp Rabbits

Greenville, SC – In a thrilling contest on Friday night, the South Carolina Stingrays suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena, marked by a last-minute goal with just 36.3 seconds remaining.

The game opened with high energy but no scoring in the first period. Stingrays goaltender Seth Eisele showcased his talent, making 15 saves and successfully managing three penalties, including a challenging 5-on-3 situation.

The second period kicked off with the Swamp Rabbits taking the lead just 58 seconds in. After a blocked shot from Ben Freeman, Joe Leahy capitalized by deftly backhanding the puck past Eisele. However, the Stingrays responded vigorously, leveling the score four minutes later when Charlie Combs executed a smooth give-and-go with Micah Miller, finding the net for his fourth goal of the season.

South Carolina gained momentum and took the lead six minutes later. A well-coordinated play involving Kyler Kupka and Miller set up Jamie Engelbert, who scored his team-leading seventh goal, putting the Stingrays ahead.

The Swamp Rabbits equalized midway through the third period when Tate Singleton found a gap, beating Eisele glove side. As the clock ticked down, Greenville ramped up pressure in the Stingray zone, leading to the game-winning goal. With under a minute to play, Carter Savoie successfully tipped a shot from Freeman, sealing the victory for the Swamp Rabbits.

The Stingrays will look to bounce back tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. when they host the Adirondack Thunder at North Charleston Coliseum for First Responders Night, presented by ServiceMaster of Charleston.
