South Carolina Stingrays Fall to Greenville Swamp Rabbits in Nail-Biting Finish

GREENVILLE, SC – In a thrilling contest that came down to the wire, the South Carolina Stingrays suffered a 3-2 defeat against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Friday night. The Stingrays displayed resilience but ultimately fell short after the Swamp Rabbits scored the decisive goal with just 36.3 seconds left in regulation.

The game opened without any scoring in the first period, where Stingrays goalie Seth Eisele showcased his skills by making 15 saves and managing to thwart a challenging 5-on-3 power play situation.

Greenville broke the deadlock early in the second period when Joe Leahy capitalized on a rebound, sneaking a backhand past Eisele just under a minute in. However, the Stingrays quickly countered, with Charlie Combs finding the net four minutes later to level the score, assisted by Micah Miller and Austin Magera.

South Carolina took a 2-1 lead later in the second, with Jamie Engelbert scoring his team-leading seventh goal, bolstered by excellent setup plays from Kyler Kupka and Miller. The Swamp Rabbits responded in the third period, tying the game again at 2-2 when Tate Singleton fired a shot past Eisele.

With the game hanging in the balance, Combs had a chance to reclaim the lead for the Stingrays on a penalty shot but was thwarted by Greenville’s goaltender Dryden McKay. In a dramatic finish, Carter Savoie netted the game-winner for the Swamp Rabbits on a deflected shot with mere seconds remaining.

Looking ahead, the Stingrays will return home to face the Adirondack Thunder on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum for First Responders Night. Limited tickets are still available.
