University of South Carolina’s defensive coordinator/inside linebackers coach Clayton White has been nominated for the prestigious Broyles Award, recognizing college football’s top assistant coach. White, known for his innovative “Flex-Nickel” defense, has led the Gamecocks to one of the best defensive performances in years. With a mix of returning starters and promising newcomers like Kyle Kennard and Dylan Stewart, the defense ranks among the top-20 in various statistical categories nationally.

White is among 65 nominees selected from 1,500 assistant coaches across 131 FBS programs. The selection process involves the Football Writers Association of America, broadcasters, a college football hall-of-fame committee, and current college head coaches. A distinguished committee will choose 15 semi-finalists, from which five finalists and the overall winner will be selected for the Broyles Award.

The Gamecocks’ defensive success under White’s leadership has been evident in their impressive rankings in scoring defense, rush defense, pass efficiency defense, total defense, turnovers gained, and more. With a strong core of players and White’s strategic coaching, South Carolina’s defense has become a formidable force in college football.

As White’s nomination for the Broyles Award highlights his exceptional coaching abilities, the Gamecocks and their fans can take pride in their defense’s stellar performance this season.
