North Carolina Republican nominee for governor, Mark Robinson, is facing backlash after inflammatory comments he made on a pornographic website’s message board were uncovered by CNN. The comments, dating back to over a decade ago, show Robinson expressing support for reinstating slavery, liking transgender pornography, and making lewd and sexual comments. Robinson, who denies making the comments, used the username “minisoldr” on the website and detailed graphic sexual encounters in his posts.
Despite his public stance on issues like abortion and transgender rights, Robinson’s private comments on the website stand in stark contrast. Robinson has previously advocated for a complete abortion ban and expressed regret for his now-wife’s abortion in the 1980s. Additionally, he has been criticized for mocking Parkland shooting survivors, maligned civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., and used derogatory language towards Black, Jewish, Muslim, and LGBTQ+ communities.
While Robinson has denied making the comments and dismissed them as “tabloid trash,” evidence connecting him to the username “minisoldr” on the website has been uncovered. The discovery of his controversial remarks has raised concerns about his candidacy for governor, as he faces an uphill battle against his opponent, Democrat Josh Stein, and recent public polling shows him trailing. Robinson’s history of offensive comments and contentious views on various issues have become a focal point in the race for governor of North Carolina.
