China’s tech giant ByteDance is suing a former intern for $1.1 million, accusing him of attacking its AI training infrastructure. This case has garnered attention in China due to the focus on AI technology, specifically large language model training. The company, known for its popular app TikTok, is seeking damages from the former intern, Tian Keyu, for allegedly sabotaging AI model training tasks. This legal action against an intern for such a large sum is uncommon in China, sparking interest in the case. ByteDance declined to comment on the lawsuit, while Tian, a postgraduate student at Peking University, has not responded to media inquiries. The intern is accused of deliberately manipulating code and making unauthorized modifications to disrupt the company’s AI training processes. In October, ByteDance announced that the intern had been dismissed in August. Despite rumors of significant financial losses and resource wastage, the company stated that these claims were exaggerated. This case highlights the growing importance of AI technology in the global tech industry and the potential security threats posed by internal individuals with malicious intent.
