Christine Heller Seaman, a New York woman, has been haunted for decades by the disappearance of her grandparents, Catherine and Charles Romer, who went missing 44 years ago while traveling home from Miami Beach. Recently, a submerged car found in a Georgia pond has given her family hope that the mystery may soon be solved.
The Romers were last seen checking into a Holiday Inn in Brunswick, Georgia in 1980, but then disappeared along with their 1978 Lincoln Continental. Law enforcement had expressed concerns about foul play due to Catherine Romer wearing expensive jewelry at the time.
Decades later, a submerged Lincoln Continental was discovered in a Georgia pond, with one human bone found inside. Personal belongings such as jewelry and a license plate bearing the couple’s initials were also found in the car. However, authorities have not yet confirmed if the remains belong to the Romers, or if the vehicle belongs to them.
Seaman and her family believe that the Romers may have died in an accident rather than falling victim to a crime, and they have found some closure during the Thanksgiving holiday by sharing happy memories of their missing loved ones. Seaman described her grandmother, Catherine, as the “life of the party” and a beloved figure in their family, while Charles Romer was a “lovely and generous man.”
Seaman expressed gratitude towards the investigators and diving team who worked to solve the mystery, saying they are shocked but appreciative of the efforts to provide closure for their family and give them peace of mind.
