A recent incident in Peru involving the biggest streamer on the planet has left many people over the age of 35 confused about streaming culture. The streamer, who travels with 50 bodyguards and is chased by thousands of fans, was made the mayor of a city for an hour by the local government. This unusual marketing stunt has garnered significant press attention for Peru, despite the bewildered reactions of older individuals who question how society has reached this point. The streamer, just 20 years old and unable to drink alcohol in the US, has now been appointed mayor of two cities in a week, overshadowing career politicians. The streamer’s experience of being followed by a police brigade and living a surreal existence post-Fortnite fame is something out of a dream. Previously, another streamer, known as Smitty, had a similar experience, traveling through South America representing Philly sports and Barstool. While the chaos in Peru surprisingly resulted in no injuries, a similar event involving a streamer giving away PlayStation 5’s in NYC led to downtown Manhattan being shut down and the streamer being charged with inciting a riot.
