People Mistook Reese Witherspoon for a Real Lawyer During Jury Duty Following ‘Legally Blonde’

Reese Witherspoon shared a story on “The Graham Norton Show” about being mistaken for a real lawyer and being selected as the foreman of a jury during jury duty, all because of her portrayal of Elle Woods in “Legally Blonde.” Despite not wanting to serve on a jury, she was selected for a two-week trial for a dog bite case. During deliberations, her fellow jurors assumed she had gone to law school because of her role in the movie. Witherspoon clarified that she did not have a legal background and had not finished college. The incident highlighted the public’s limited knowledge about the law. Witherspoon played the character Elle Woods in the 2001 film and its 2003 sequel, where she fights for animal rights in Washington D.C. Talks of a third movie have been ongoing, but it was confirmed in May 2024 that a “Legally Blonde” prequel series is in the works for Amazon Prime Video, showcasing Elle Woods as a high school student before Harvard Law. Witherspoon expressed excitement about the project, which is expected to be released later this year. Her castmate Luke Wilson praised Witherspoon’s intelligence and hinted at her involvement in developing the series.
