South Carolina Achieves 70th Straight Home Win, Retires A’ja Wilson’s Jersey
Freshman Joyce Edwards led South Carolina to their 70th consecutive home win with 18 points in an 83-66 victory over Auburn. The win came on a special day as the program retired the jersey of former national champion and WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson. Chloe Kitts added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Gamecocks.
Auburn put up a fight early in the game but South Carolina pulled away with a dominant performance. DeYona Gaston scored 31 points for Auburn but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Gamecocks. South Carolina extended its SEC regular-season winning streak to 56 games and has now defeated Auburn 13 times in a row.
With a strong inside game, South Carolina outscored Auburn in the paint 48-30. Despite not being at their sharpest, the Gamecocks celebrated Wilson’s legacy with a satisfying win. Up next, South Carolina will face Georgia on Thursday while Auburn hosts Texas A&M.
