Officials from the Department of Public Health in South Carolina have highlighted the disproportionate impact of HIV on African-American communities, with black patients accounting for over two-thirds of reported cases despite representing only a quarter of the state’s population. In an effort to address this epidemic, National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is being recognized on Friday.
As part of the awareness day, free HIV and STD testing is being offered at clinics throughout the state, including several locations in the CSRA. These clinics include those in Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, Edgefield, and Orangeburg counties. Appointments can be made by calling 855-472-3432 or scheduling online through Web Chat.
The aim of this initiative is to increase access to testing and raise awareness about the importance of early detection and treatment in combating the spread of HIV within black communities.
