State Approvals Granted for Williams-Brice Stadium Project; Renowned Design Firm Chosen for Project

The University of South Carolina has received approval from the State of South Carolina Legislature’s Joint Bond Review Committee and the State Fiscal Accountability Authority for Phase I activities in the reimagining of Williams-Brice Stadium. The approval allows the University to move forward with schematic design and cost estimating, with plans to seek formal approval on the full scope and cost of the project later in 2025.

Jeremiah Donati, USC Director of Athletics, expressed gratitude for the approval, stating that the stadium project will be transformational and elevate the university’s national profile. The next step in the planning process involves issuing a Request for Qualifications for a construction manager, with internationally acclaimed design firm Populous selected to lead the architectural design.

The project, focusing initially on the West Side of the stadium with some improvements on the North Side, will include premium suites and club seats to enhance the game day experience for fans. Populous Senior Principal Jonathan Kelley expressed excitement to work on the project and preserve Gamecock traditions while bringing in new enhancements. USC Athletics will continue to share details with the community as the design process progresses.

The reimagining of Williams-Brice Stadium is expected to generate new revenue streams to support all Gamecock athletics programs and provide a first-class experience for fans and donors. The project aims to transform the stadium and benefit the Department of Athletics, athletic programs, the university, and the greater community.
