Rebecca Auborn, an Ohio sex worker, has been found competent to stand trial for the fatal drugging of four customers and the attempted murder of a fifth. Auborn, 34, was indicted on multiple charges, including murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault. She pleaded not guilty to the charges. The competency ruling was issued by Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge Karen Phipps, but a trial date has not been set yet. The competency exam was ordered in response to a request from Auborn’s lawyer and was conducted by a forensic examiner.
The victims, including Wayne Akin, Robert Snoke, Joseph Crumpler, and Guy Renda Jr., were allegedly drugged with fentanyl by Auborn during sexual encounters in the Columbus area. Akin’s daughter, Christyn Crockett, expressed relief at the ruling, as it paves the way for a fair trial to begin. The judge’s decision marks a step forward in the legal process, but the families of the victims are still anxious for closure.
Auborn is also facing charges of felonious assault and aggravated robbery in connection with the attempted overdose of a fifth person in December. Autopsy reports from the Franklin County Coroner’s Office confirm the cause of death for the victims allegedly drugged by Auborn. The case highlights the dangers and complexities of the sex work industry and the legal implications of criminal activities in this context.
