Kentucky storm death toll climbs to 14 as state prepares for more winter weather

The death toll in the storms that hit Kentucky has reached 14, with two additional deaths caused by hypothermia. The impact communities are now facing more winter weather, with 60 million people under winter weather alerts from the Central Plains to the Carolina coast. The storm is expected to bring significant snow accumulation to central and southern Kentucky. A light dusting of snow is forecast for Tuesday morning, with up to 1 inch possible, which could create slick road conditions. Total snow accumulation of 2 to 6 inches is possible from Tuesday evening to Wednesday afternoon. The storm is expected to disrupt recovery efforts for the floods and create hazardous travel conditions. Almost 4,500 utility customers are still without power in Kentucky, and officials are encouraging those without power to head to shelters if they cannot safely heat their homes. Water rescues are expected to wind down as the focus shifts to clearing roads in preparation for the winter storm. Governor Beshear expressed concerns about people getting stranded on roads and in freezing temperatures during the storm.
