Armada delivers containerized data center to US Navy in South Carolina

Armada, a containerized Edge data center company, has delivered a Galleon module to the US Navy in North Charleston, South Carolina, as part of a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA). The pod will support advanced network management, command and control, and Edge computing solutions for the Navy. CEO Dan Wright stated that Armada aims to enhance warfighter readiness and national security with resilient computing platforms. The California-based startup, which emerged from stealth in late 2023, specializes in remote and off-grid applications like defense and mining. The modular data center, utilizing SpaceX’s Starlink network, will undergo testing and evaluation through a partnership with NIWC Atlantic for US Naval Forces Southern Command/US Fourth Fleet.

Armada has garnered over $100 million in investments from companies like Microsoft and Founders Fund. The company previously worked with Nexa Resources and Edarat Group on deployments, and has upcoming projects in Detroit, Michigan, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and with Aramco. The Navy’s initiative to invest in advanced Edge computing technology aligns with their mission of delivering cyberwarfare solutions and enhancing operational capabilities in challenging environments.
