South Carolina football has rewarded walk-on linebacker Colin Bryant with a scholarship, as announced by the Gamecocks on social media. The team-building exercise video showed head coach Shane Beamer instructing a teammate to share what he had learned about Bryant before announcing the news of his scholarship.
Bryant, a redshirt senior from Wando High School in Mount Pleasant, previously walked on at Alabama before transferring to South Carolina. Although he hasn’t seen much playing time on defense, Bryant has been a crucial contributor on special teams and has earned recognition as a 2nd team All-SEC Special Teamer in 2024. He has also been recognized for his efforts as a practice player, earning multiple scout team awards.
In his time with the Gamecocks, Bryant has played in 21 games and recorded six tackles last season. This year, he will be competing for a rotation spot in the linebacker room, which has seen turnover with the departure of four seniors from last year. Bryant’s scholarship follows fellow former walk-on Ronnie Porter’s elevation to scholarship status as a redshirt senior linebacker in recent months.
The 6-2, 230-pound South Carolina native will be looking to make an impact on the team as they work towards a successful season ahead. Fans and teammates alike have celebrated this well-deserved recognition for Bryant’s hard work and dedication to the Gamecocks.
