Trump appoints new US Attorney for the District of South Carolina, replacing Adair Boroughs

Adair Ford Boroughs, who was nominated by President Joe Biden and sworn in as the United States District Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina in July 2022, has been terminated by the Trump administration as of February 18, 2025. She is now replaced by First Assistant Attorney Brook B. Andrews as Acting US Attorney for the District of South Carolina.

Before her nomination as US Attorney, Boroughs had served in various roles within the Department of Justice and as a founding partner of a law firm. As US Attorney, Boroughs prioritized the enforcement of federal civil rights laws and fighting violent crime, resulting in several hate crime convictions and awareness campaigns.

Boroughs expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as US Attorney and praised the dedicated work of her colleagues and law enforcement partners. Meanwhile, Andrews, a career federal prosecutor, is set to take over as Acting US Attorney. He brings with him a wealth of experience and a strong academic background, having clerked for federal judges and handled a wide range of criminal, civil, and appellate matters.

The transfer of power from Boroughs to Andrews marks a significant change in leadership within the US Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina. As Andrews steps into his new role, he is expected to continue the office’s mission of upholding the rule of law, ensuring public safety, and protecting civil rights with the support of his colleagues and law enforcement partners.
