The South Carolina Supreme Court has suspended the law license of West Ashley attorney Jeffrey T. Spell after he admitted to having an intimate relationship with a client’s wife. Spell agreed to a six-month suspension of his license after court documents revealed the misconduct. The couple had a close relationship with Spell for over 20 years, and he had represented them in a legal matter in 2010. Spell also failed to file his federal and state income tax returns for the past 10 years, but has since hired a Certified Public Accountant to rectify the situation. Spell’s disciplinary history includes a public reprimand in 2003 and a one-year suspension in 2007 for criminal conviction in federal court. There are currently no pending criminal charges against him. The court order states that Spell regrets his actions and is working to correct his mistakes. Copyright 2025 WCSC.
