Rudy Giuliani has finally satisfied a judgment against him after defaming two former Georgia election workers by falsely accusing them of election fraud following the 2020 presidential contest. The judgment was settled after Giuliani reached an agreement with Ruby Freeman and Wandrea “Shaye” Moss in January. A jury had initially awarded the workers $148 million, which was later reduced to $146 million. Interest and attorney fees were also included in the final figure. Giuliani was found in contempt of court for failing to comply with orders surrounding the judgment. The former mayor of New York City baselessly accused the women of fraud, resulting in death threats and harassment from Trump supporters. The women testified before a congressional committee, detailing the impact of Giuliani’s false statements on their lives. The settlement agreement was reached in January, with Freeman and Moss expressing relief at finally clearing their names after a “living nightmare” of the past four years. Giuliani’s representative did not comment on the settlement.
