Georgia performing better than South Carolina in the midst of lingering flu season

Georgia has seen a decline in flu cases during what doctors have described as one of the busiest flu seasons in recent memory. While flu activity in South Carolina remained “very high” into mid-February, according to data from the CDC.

During the week of February 2-8, 38 states, including North and South Carolina, were categorized as having very high flu activity, the highest level on the CDC’s scale. However, flu spread declined slightly by the week of February 9-15, with the activity still remaining very high in the Carolinas.

In South Carolina, flu activity has been categorized as very high since late December 2024, and worsened in mid-January 2025. South Carolina was one of nine states ranked at Level 13 for flu activity by the CDC, the highest level on the scale, during the week of February 9-15.

While the situation is improving in Georgia, doctors have reported a busy flu season. Dr. Timothy Connelly at Memorial Health in Savannah stated that the hospital saw 36 flu patients in one day, emphasizing the severity of the season.

Overall, flu activity has been significant in both Georgia and South Carolina, with South Carolina experiencing particularly high levels of flu activity, according to CDC reports.
