Governor McMaster of South Carolina declares State of Emergency in response to wildfires

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has declared a State of Emergency in response to wildfires burning across the state. The order aims to enhance emergency response efforts as firefighters continue to work on containing the wildfires impacting various regions. A ban on outdoor burning has also been put in place until further notice. State Fire Marshal reports ongoing response operations to over 175 wildfires affecting 4,200 acres primarily in Horry, Spartanburg, Oconee, Union, and Pickens Counties due to dry and windy conditions. The South Carolina Forestry Commission issued a State Forester’s Burning Ban for all counties, prohibiting all outdoor burning activities. Forest Protection Chief Darryl Jones expressed concerns about the strain on resources due to the increased wildfire activity. South Carolinians are advised to stay informed through official emergency sources and report any immediate threats by calling 911. The Governor’s order ensures that first responders have the necessary resources to combat the wildfires and warns of criminal prosecution for violating the burning ban.
