The 2025 Hilton Head International Piano Competition, featuring adult artists aged 18 to 30, is set to showcase 20 competitors from 10 different countries. Director Steve Shaiman discusses the process of selecting the competitors from a pool of 193 applicants and highlights the new collaboration with composer Lowell Lieberman. Each competitor will perform a brand new work commissioned from Lieberman, allowing for 20 unique interpretations during the competition.
The competition offers a total prize pool of $43,000, with cash prizes increased this year. The first prize winner will have the opportunity to perform a concerto with the Hilton Head Symphony and give a recital at Carnegie Hall. Additional prizes include a recording, professional management services, and performance opportunities with orchestras in South Carolina and Savannah.
Exciting moments to look forward to include the semi-finals, where the top six artists will be selected, and the finals where the top three will perform a full-length piano concerto with the Hilton Head Symphony. The competition promises an exciting week of piano performances and opportunities for emerging artists to showcase their talent and grow in their careers.
